Poultry feed production is becoming more important day by day as the population worldwide and in our country increases rapidly and consumption habits change to contain more animal protein.
The poultry industry has started to face challenges due to the rapid rise in the world population and the corresponding demand for meat. By 2050, the world has to produce 69 percent more food calories, almost half of which must be covered by the poultry industry.
In 2017, global feed production exceeded 1 billion tons for the first time and the poultry industry represented 44 percent of total feed production. Given that the population is expected to grow further in the near future, the poultry industry must be ready for an ever-increasing demand.
In the past, the poultry farms used to prepare a mixture of crushed grains and some additives such as salt, limestone, and calcium phosphate, to improve the animals’ skeletal and muscle development. Birds were fed soft and mashed foods.
However, recent studies on the nutritional behavior of poultry have shown that mashed feed does not provide the necessary nutritional value, such as protein and calories, for birds to develop in the optimum time range. This also results in large feed spillages as well as a rise in the ammonia (NH3) levels, which adversely affects the birds’ health.
